Sander L. Hitzig

Dr. Sander L. Hitzig is the Program Research Director and Senior Scientist at the St. John's Rehab Research Program at Sunnybrook Research Institute. He is an Associate Professor (status-only) in the Department of Occupational Science and Occupational Therapy, the Rehabilitation Sciences Institute, and the Dalla Lana School of Public Health at the University of Toronto. Dr. Hitzig is a Board Member on the International Society for Prosthetics and Orthotics — Canada, and is the Chair for the Scientific Planning Committee for the GTA Rehab Network Best Practices Research Day.

Areas of Research / Educational Scholarship

Dr. Hitzig's program of rehabilitation, aging and disability research evaluates the impact of disability on health and quality of life, identifies factors that promote health and social well-being in the community, and develops evidence-based strategies to optimize the delivery of integrated models of care. Some examples of recent projects include examining social isolation following spinal cord injury and limb loss and supporting the development of an integrated health and housing model for City of Toronto senior-designated social housing buildings.
