Program Onboarding Student FAQs

Please review the following if you have questions relating to submitting your onboarding documents to the department (Health and immunization, etc).

Health Forms - What is the deadline to submit my health forms and where do I submit them?

The deadlines for both Year 1 and Year 2 coincide with the first day of classes (at the latest). However, please submit your documents as soon as they are completed (if earlier than this date)

Health Forms - Do I need to complete three doses of the Hepatitis B shots?

This will differ depending on the individuals circumstances. Please carefully review sections A, B and C along with the instructions on page 5 with your health care provider to determine what schedule you will need to follow.

Health Forms - Is the COVID-19 vaccine a requirement?

No, however, COVID vaccination is strongly recommended. Students who choose not to have the COVID vaccination should be aware that they will be limited from fieldwork placements at sites without documentation of vaccination.

CPR - I have both a BLS and C level Certification. Which do I recert at?

Either is acceptable but students will certify or recertify at level C at a minimum.

CPR - My CPR level is good for three years. Do I need to recertify?

OT requires students to recertify CPR annually. Recertify before the September deadline every year of the program.

VSS/VSC Screening - I have a recent VSS already, do I need to redo my VSS before the deadline?

All students should submit VSC/VSS that has been issued within within 6 months of their first placement (use the Fieldwork schedule to determine the date). For example going into Year 2 the VSS should be within 3 months of the submission of documentation in order to meet this requirement for FW2.

Please keep in mind that we cannot predict what a sites requirements will be or where a student will be placed for fieldwork and so students will need to be prepared to redo a VSS several times during the program or in the event one is required sooner than 6 months of the placement start.  Any fees associated with the completion of a VSS are the responsibility of the student.

VSS/VSC Screening - When we are applying VSC/VSS what do we choose under position?

The exact question and answer for this will differ depending on the region you are applying in but typically the answer would be unpaid student placement position.

VSS/VSC Screening - What do I put under name of person or Organization

University of Toronto, Masters of Science in Occupational Therapy (MScOT)

VSS/VSC Screening - What do I put under Vulnerable client duties?

Fieldwork placement in elder care, paediatric and/or with school age children.

Mask Fit Testing - Do I have to arrange Mask Fit Testing myself?

No. Mask Fit testing has been organized for the fall. You will be receive an email from RSS OT Student Services over the summer with further instructions.

Learning Modules - One of my certificates doesn’t have my name on it.

Manually add your name as clearly as possible prior to uploading the document.

Learning Modules - I recently completed the AODA training and WHIMS training for my job, do I have to complete them again?

No, the learning modules do not have deadlines attached to them. You can upload pre-prepared modules as evidence of completion.

Students should, however, be prepared to complete these again if asked by their Fieldwork Placement Site if that is a requirement.

Learning Modules - When I complete the learning module there is no certificate for me to print off. Can I submit a screenshot?

Yes, submit a screenshot but ensure your name appears somewhere on the image. You will need to manually enter it if not.
