Paula Rowland, an Assistant Professor in the Department of Occupational Science & Occupational Therapy, recently received a Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada Insight Grant of $92,866.65 for a research project titled, “Digital futures of care work: Examining sociotechnical imaginaries of Integrated Care.”

This research project aims to address challenges facing health care organizations as they incorporate more digital tools and information technology into health care workers’ daily tasks.

The study will look at how organization leaders shape the digital future of their organizations, how their visions of a digital future translate into forms of work, and the implications of these visions for what it means to be a good professional in data-intensive work environments.

This project is a collaborative effort between Prof. Rowland, principal investigator, and co-investigators Carolyn Steele Gray, an Associate Professor (status-only) in the Institute for Health Policy, Management and Evaluation, Jay Shaw, an Associate Professor in the Department of Physical Therapy , and Jennifer Bell, an Assistant Professor (status-only) in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Toronto.

This work is part of ETCHwork, an ongoing collaboration in the intersections between ethics, technology, and change in healthcare work.
