Roula Markoulakis

Dr. Roula Markoulakis is a Scientist at Sunnybrook Research Institute, in the Evaluative Clinical Sciences and Hurvitz Brain Sciences programs, and is the Research Lead with the Family Navigation Project at Sunnybrook. Dr. Markoulakis completed her MSc in Kinesiology at Wilfrid Laurier Universtity and her PhD in Rehabilitation Sciences at the University of Toronto. She is also a co-founder and co-lead of the annual Canadian Healthcare Navigation Conference.

Areas of Research / Educational Scholarship

Dr. Markoulakis’ research interests focus on supporting youth with mental health and/or addictions concerns and their families in finding and accessing needed care in the system, particularly through system navigation supports. She explores barriers and facilitators in the mental health system, transitions in care, youth engagement in navigation, peer support in navigation, and advancing navigation models of support through implementation science, evidence-based practices and standards, and learning health systems.
