Adjunct Lecturer & Professorial Appointments
Initial Appointment Applications
Applications for adjunct lecturer appointments beginning in 2024 are now closed. Check back in early January 2025 for deadlines and instructions for appointments beginning in 2025.
Offering Initial Adjunct Lecturer Appointments Only
Note: As of the 2023 academic year, Status-Only Lecturer appointments will no longer be offered and only initial Adjunct Lecturer appointment applications are available. Candidates who intend to apply for a Status-Only lecturer appointment should apply for an Adjunct Lecturer appointment. This change eases the administrative burden both for prospective lecturers and appointment administrators, while still being able to offer the same academic appointment terms and access to U of T resources and perquisites. See Rehab Sector Guidelines for Adjunct Lecturer Academic Appointments 2023 2024 for details.
With this change, the following items will no longer be required:
- reference letters for initial appointment applications;
- employer’s confirmation of support for the academic appointment; and
- re-appointment between Status-Only/Adjunct due to change of employers
Appointment Criteria
The academic goals of the Department of Occupational Science and Occupational Therapy and the Rehabilitation Sciences Sector cannot be met without the participation of talented people from many institutions and agencies outside of the university. The aim of an Adjunct appointment is to recognize the participation of highly qualified and dedicated researchers, practitioners and members of the community in the academic and clinical education components of the programs. These appointees augment the efforts and expertise of the full-time departmental faculty. We are seeking appointees who:
- maintain a high level of expertise and competence in their disciplines;
- are skilled at communicating expertise to members of their respective disciplines and the broader health care community;
- can stimulate, challenge and develop the scholarly and clinical capacity of students
- contribute to the growth of the discipline by building the body of knowledge or advancing the quality, efficiency and effectiveness of practice.
Initial Application Process
Details for the next round of applications will be posted as soon as they are available.
Questions

New Status Only Appointments
To be eligible for a status-only appointment at the rank of Professor, the individual must hold full-time employment arrangements with another institution and have a job description that is primarily academic (research and teaching) in nature. Most often, status-only appointments are granted to employees of affiliated hospitals or research institutions, or faculty at other universities. Status-only appointments are non-salaried and generally receive no remuneration from the University of Toronto.
Please contact Sandra Sokoloff (ot.chair@utoronto.ca) if you are interested in a status only appointment at the rank of Professor.
