As a second-year student in the Master of Science in Occupational Therapy program at the Mississauga campus, Alex Dolson has driven mentorship, wellness and outreach initiatives that expand access, strengthen belonging, and create meaningful pathways for students and prospective learners across the University of Toronto

As a Student Representative on the Fieldwork Partner Committee, she works with faculty members and fieldwork partners to provide a student perspective on placement experiences.

She has also volunteered as a mentor to first-year students in the occupational therapy program, as well as volunteering with high school students from underrepresented backgrounds to introduce them to occupational therapy.

Professor Rhona Anderson, who works with Alex on the Fieldwork Partner Committee, says “Alex exemplifies integrity, collaboration, and service. Her commitment to fostering dialogue and driving positive change makes her an outstanding leader and advocate within the University of Toronto community.”

Katherine Pulak, a second-year student in the Master of Science in Occupational Therapy program at the St. George campus, has demonstrated her leadership abilities as an advocate for her peers within the classroom and through advocating for the role of occupational therapy through student-led health care initiatives, fostering collaboration and relationships rooted in community, equity, and shared purpose.

Katherine volunteers her time to serve on the Student Affairs Committee and as Graduate Student Union Representative, advocating for transparent communication, access to support for student well-being and opportunities to improve current processes.

She says, “In these roles, I prioritize connection among students, faculty, disciplines, and communities because I believe meaningful engagement and change begin with relationships.

Professor Christie Welch, who works with Katherine on the Student Affairs Committee, says, “Katherine’s leadership is rooted in empathy, collaboration, and a clear vision for inclusive excellence. She not only uplifts her peers but also challenges systems to be more responsive and equitable. Her contributions have left a lasting impact on the Department of Occupational Science & Occupational Therapy and the wider U of T community.”
